You'll need to explain that a little more. Do you mean you used the software at the link below to create a Live Linux install on a usb drive? If you just installed the UUI to the flash drive, it won't do anything. Which distribution of Linux are you trying to install? You should not be getting a Grub prompt because the UUI uses syslinux not Grub to boot. More details needed.

Did you run the universal usb installer from windows? Did it indicate it had completed successfully? Did you then reboot and set the BIOS to boot from usb? I don't know where Grub would come in to play given the information you have posted?

32 or 64?

Ran universal install from old lap top in vista. Complete successfully. Went to new computer went into bios and changed boot order to usb first. Inserted usb stick turned on computer and thats when i got the grub message repeating. Btw Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit

Could be a bad download, did you do a mdsum check on the iso.

dumbpenguin 03-06-2014 08:34 PM

No i will try that when i get home tonight but i did try 2 different flash drives. And download 12.04 from the Ubuntu site

If I were you I would do a new download of the ISO and then put it back on the thumbdrive.

Which Linux distribution do you have on the 'new' computer that has Grub on it? The UUI doesn't use Grub so I'm wondering where that comes in?
Do you have windows installed on the 'new' computer? If so, which release?

Another thought, You wouldn't happen to have selected the "TRY Unlisted ISO (GRUB)" option when running the universal installer.
