HELP!!!boot freeze w/ redhat9
 

i installed redhat in a dual boot envi. w/ winxp. win boots but redhat does not boot. the error says

hda: drive not ready for command
blk: queue co3c9f40 I/0 limit 4095MB (mask 0xffffffff)
_ <<blinks and then nothing happens

my partition config is this
[windows'ntfs'5gb'|linux'ext3'100mb'/boot'|linux'ext3'14gb'/|linuxswap]

i have GRUB bootloader on MBR

Pls HELP ME...I reinstalled and tried almost every config like intalling redhat in my slave drive but still i get the same errors...my goal is just to have both OS on my system and i can't do it...HELP will be really appreciated. TY

That sounds a little bit bad for me, based in some things i've read before, your disk is not ... very fine, may be is near to the end...

But, we hope it is not true...

so, may be if you write your configuration, disk, motherboard, etc, it could help.

You can try disabling the dma acces to your disk, is not a magic thing, but could help to recognize where is the problem.

The disk you talk about, is old?, was working fine before this problem?

Well, don't worry some one will give you the righ answer, but post more information...

OK My disk is a 19 GB Maxtor 5T020H2
Somebody built this system for us so i don't know if my hard drive is old. I got it 3 years ago though. And it was working fine. Windows XP works properly in this drive. I'm using it right now.
My motherboard is a WT70-EC Intel 850 Chipset
128 Rambus RAM
Intel Pentium 1.4 G

You installed XP first and then the RedHat, isn't?

Well i think that your problem is in / with your disk, something similar happened tome log time a go, and i fixed it changing the tipe of acces in the BIOS. But as i said, it was long a go...

You can try to find some information in other places too, like alltheweb, google, and linux sites. The differente things i've read about, points to problems with the DMA acces, the ACPI or the APM...

Sorry, i can't tell you too much more about, but i'm sure that some one here can do it

well it turns out that redhat does not support my system archietecture. i tried to install it in an older system (P3) w/ the same hard drive that i used in my first system and it works. well thanks to PatomaS for replying.
