Help & suggestions setting up my system

k, what are we dealing with here.

A 700Athlon 256RAM 2x60Gb
and a second computer about complete (just need motherboard, processor and ram)

To be used managing a website, creating music, creating artwork, anything else of the cool shit.

my first Linux, apart from brief look at KNOPPIX and still currently on my PC is Suse 9.1 personal, no dual boot. i made a leap, not a transition. so i feel the urge to learn this shit fast. scoping tutorials and helpfiles, getting to grips with navigating the world of Linux thinking the linux way trying to scrape out the old autonomonised way. hey my head feels funny... whats this.. its actually being stimulated? :D  :study:

sorry i digress. i'll try to stay technical.

a new partitioning is in order i think as when i created them i didnt fully comprehend the uses of each partition under the defaults, nor how to change how my partitions are used.... still don't.
like whats the deal with leaving more space unpartitioned on my drive..... i can use it up later as needed? groovy.

yep, i absolutely reek of noob. :study: !! i feel dirty. i need to inject my head with all know-how, in seconds. i dont like being at the bottom of the learning curve! waaaa!

for someone with the above setup and expected later connection to local networks, what would be typical? what would you reccomend? any specifics or general observations welcome.

or ignore me entirely... i'm really just thinking out loud and making little landmarks in my progress. (<-looks more like laughin to me)

i'm totally lost... what sort of recommendations are you expecting??

i have no expectations. ... ok, i have one expectation.... to be told to go away and keep reading. ;) (probably all thats needed)

sorry, modern culture has conditioned me to seek the quick fix.

i've been searchin and lurking and seen a few people who use their linux boxes for similar... just thought they might have advice, being from a possition of more experience, that might help me avoid future problems.

i hope the next setup for this PC to be one that lasts for years in its flexibility, so it can become my steady bedrock upon which to build my network of creative use machines. (note cunning avoidance of the word workstations, in true procrastination style)

i have the book "Running Linux" in the post. i hope i'm upto the level of understanding required for that by the time it arrives.
