hi im new linux and i have just downloaded and burned the iso file of mandriva one 2008 spring....the problem is on installing...ithe installation gets to the boot screen and installs the kernel then the system seems to reboot and then i have no graphic support...in fact my monitor displays the msg...'no support'

i am installing the live version over xp...

is there anything i can download to get my graphics up and running so i can continue to install mandriva?

Can you tell us the motherboard and graphics card specs?

I'm not sure what this means. If you boot up using the Live CD, nothing gets installed---until you specifically run the installer.
When you first boot the live CD, does it give any display options?

ok my motherboard is an ASUS 64bit p5vd2-vm my processor is an INTEL CORE 2 and i have invidia graphics card...
i am also currently running windows xp...

i put mandriva into the cd/dvdrom exit windows and reboot...i see the boot up screen for mandriva and i have 3 options...1 help 2 language 3 other options...i leave these intact and dont change a thing...i press ENTER to start the install...mandriva installs the kernel and starts to process some other stuff...then it seems to reboot itself and then i lose all support for graphics...my monitor then displays a message "no support"
and i dont even get to the installation part of the program at all...i only get to the boot screen...then nothing.
i have to reboot my system to take out the cd and go back into windows so i can get online to find out more why this is happening...

Hi,

I wonder if your LiveCD is OK for a 64-bit environment? Does is say "64-bit" anywhere on the CD? If not then I am guessing it is 32-bit. On the other hand maybe a 32 bit LiveCD would not even get that far!

Next check is the nVidia graphics card: given your motherboard I am assuming this is pretty recent so it should be supported. However, what is it? nVidia support for older cards is sometimes an issue - it is usually possible, but can require some effort.

Finally, LiveCDs try to guess all the possible driver requirements and generally do very good job at it. However, maybe your setup is too exotic for Mandriva? I don't know, I'm a Gentoo man myself, but you could try other LiveCDs instead - they might have the necessary drivers.
