Linux Installation Error: No valid devices found on which to create new file system.
I just partitioned my C drive using Knoppix. Now when I try to install linux, I get to the point where I get the option of Automatic Partition or Manual partition. Regardless which I select, I get this error: "No valid devices found on which to create new file system. Please check your hardware for the clause of this problem." I have no idea how to fix this error.

What is it exactly that you are trying to install? Linux isn't very informative considering the huge range of distros available.
If you have SATA hard drives, there is a good chance that your distro is simply failing to make sense of the hard drive controller. This was a common issue until about half a year ago but it is now something of the past. Just make sure that you use a distribution that was released in the last six months or so (Fedora 7, CentOS5, Debian 4.0, Ubuntu 7.10, PCLinuxOS2007, Mandriva 2007.1, ...). |
