Help~! Missing GUI
Sorry, forum moderator. I accidentally posted this thread in the Linux-Software section. It was meant to be here :P
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Can anyone pls help Upon booting up, my RedHat will bring me to a DOS-like screen... Red Hat Linux release 7.0 ... ... Kernal 2.2.16-22 ... ... mypc login: _ Then, upon logging in, i got this... [root@mypc /root]# _ It does not load up the GUI interface(startx-XWindow) as described in the websites around... i tried to type startx, but it is not recognisable. Anyone knows what happened to my system? And how do I setup the GUI interface? Pls advise / suggest. Will be grateful for that. Thanks and Regards, Benjamin |
What mesage are you getting when you type startx?
Are you sure you install and configure X, more than likely you did unless you told it not to. As far as setup: Xconfigurator xf86configure Try these commands (as root): type startx whereis startx |
Pardon me. I am totally new to Linux... :P Was assigned a task of setting up a dns server despite knowing nutz abt Linux... LOL~!Guess I need to learn it :)
It says the file is not found. In that case, it was not installed when I installed Red Hat. That means I need to install it manually, right? Are there any detailed documents (for newbies) out in the net on how to do that? _______________ Benjamin, the newbie |
