I am bummed that I just joined and anti-spam measures made posting all the details of my questo (with links showing my homework) impossible. Either wat I REALLY want to get my TV card working. I havent seen any tv since I installed Debian... I normally dont watch more than an hour or two a week, but after a few months I get a little bit of withdrawl, lol.

...which is a GUI based installer/configuration utility. However, I would *STRONGLY* suggest you use either Mint or Ubuntu if you're new to Linux....chances are the kernel module (the 'driver' in Windows terms) for your card are already present in those distros, which will only leave you a simple file copy to get things working.
I would like to get this working in a similar fashon as I had it running under win 7 Media Center. Namely that it ran in the background, recorded show I wanted to see and then could play them back from a saved library.

I as well am new to Linux, although Debian has indeed grown upon me. I would prefer to go through actually setting it up since the knowledge gained will just be useful if needed again. I don't see the act of changing to 'fit the trend' as being terribly helpful to understanding what & why I need to take certain action.

I do noy know what files I still have, but I know that some of the files I commented so I could backtrack do seem to be gone :(. Eitherway, here are the links I have:

What make/model TV card do you have?

Probably the best source of information on TV tuner cards and Linux is the MythTV wiki. Try searching for your card there.
