Hello,

I am new to this forum but also i just recently start using ''Mandriva'' but for some reason i cannot find any updates no nothing is this version of Linux completely dead, i don't really understand.Is their any storages codes and links i can put in my terminal to get any update? Second question if i want to add Kali Linux on my machine via USB how can i i do it?

Your question is simply answered using searching engine, like reading this for example.

But I don't think Kali is for newbies. Go for other and easier distros to learn with and progress to harder later on. Choose from the first 5 on this page.

Are you referring to the old "Mandriva" or "OpenMandriva?" If the former, then yes, that distribution is no longer active and hasn't been since 2011. ;)

Could I add my two cents and suggest that in future you use more informative titles for your posts. A lot of people, seeing something as vague as "I need a little help", would just ignore it.

I thoroughly agree with what Malekmustaq said about Kali. It's a highly specialised distro designed for use by IT professionals for penetration testing. It's not suitable for newbies. There are loads of other distros that would serve you better.

IMHO the main problem with Kali is it is not suitable for everyday use.

Distrowatch has just review the latest OpenMandriva and the reviewer wasn't happy with it! If you like your old Mandriva, then a rather better successor is Mageia.

Thank you for the recommendation guys now i need to figure it out how can i make it work, and and what OS fit me. I have desire to learn Linux so any suggestions where should I start i need a good mentor and this forum it's amazing so much info..

How you can make WHAT work?? The OS in question is "Linux"...Fedora, CentOS, RHEL, Scientific, Ubuntu, Kali, etc., are all "Linux". If you want to start out and learn, load the latest Mint. It's geared towards 'end-users', installs easily, and supports most hardware. You can run anything on it you can run on other distros, and it will get you used to using package managers and the terminology.

Yes, sure i will do that but i have a little problem because i only have Internet outdate OS aka Mandriva and 32gb flash drive that's it lol.So i need to find a way to download Mind and make my flash drive booth-able without using any software since Mandriva is dead.. any suggestions, and I'm sorry u can tell that i am kinda nooby in this but we all start from somewhere right.

No problem, even with Mandriva, you should be able to use a utility called UNetbootin (although there are other utilities) to create a bootable thumb drive of Linux Mint, if that's the distribution you want to try. Take a look at the page here or here for instructions on how to create the drive. :)

I'd vote for ubuntu xenial. You try it out, mint is derived from ubuntu. Latest mint has a flickering screen problem on some systems. But I found ubuntu to be very okay with my hw.

Hmmm... I have to start from somewhere but first i think i need to find a way to get access to Unetboothin Flash because Mandriva it's not on the supporting list lol...I am powerless honestly i was thinking to go with Kali but you guys are right I'm new to the linux world and i should start form level 1

I think you might have misunderstood that. You should be able to use UNetbootin on Mandriva to install Linux Mint on the drive. ;)

You dont need unetbootin. And sometimes it can be buggy.

just type
1) isohybrid name-of-the-iso.iso

2) dd if=name-of-iso.iso of=/dev/sdX bs=10M status=progress && sync

where X is the letter of your usb drive.
If there is no isohybrid utility on your computer, you can easily install it.

I think i did,ahaha I don't have unetbooting on my mandriva but however i went to the webpage you gave me and i got it but for some reason i cannot run the package. (x__X)
