Hello & how to install netloony

I'm brand new to Linux. We're using Debian here @ work and I've been playing around with it the last 2 days trying to understand it.

Part of my job is to learn how to configure Apache. I searched for a GUI to use for configuring Apache and I downloaded Netloony, but I can't figure out how to install it. It's a .jar file. Is there some standard way to install a .jar in Debian?

Is there another/better GUI for configuring Apache?

Please help, thanks!

Take a look at the user guide: http://netloony.sourceforge.net/userguide/index.html

I think that the .jar file is maybe a java executable---did you try and run it?

It appears that Netloony works with Apache 1.x, but I have Apache 2. I don't know if it can with with 2.

Also, I tried double-clicking on the .jar file but it opened it in Ark instead of executing.

Do you have java installed?

Did you try rt-click and then "open with"?

What does the user guide say?

For a nice apache2 gui config tool you could try gedit.

Netloony has dropped development in 2008, I wouldn't recommend to use it. Since usually a server doesn't have a GUI I would also recommend not to focus on GUI tools. If you absolutely need a GUI then use a web-based GUI, like Webmin, but in the first place I would recommend to learn how to do it with text-files.
