Hello, I am new to Linux - I recently installed kodi on my laptop, Dell Latitude E6420 with Intel HD graphics 3000.
It is connected to my HD TV with a HDMI cable. The TV shows the wallpaper for Linux Mint but not the screen content from the laptop. The TV is detected by the laptop using "Preferences" - "Display" and connected successfully yesterday. I cannot connect today.
A Terminal enquiry xrandr shows HDMI disconnected - how do I connect - help please.

Clearly your HDMI cable is connected if it is able to show your mint wallpaper!

It's worth noting that the aspect ratios of your monitor and TV could be different:
Monitor 1366x768 (aspect ratio = 1.778)
TV hopefully 1920 x 1080 (aspect ratio = 1.778)

Could your configuration have reverted to the lower resolution monitor when you switched it off?
Is it worth trying to use the VGA connector for the monitor & the HDMI connector for the TV?

Thanks for the input. The monitor is inbuilt to the laptop so it's an internal connection. Both are the same aspect ratio. I have checked or reset the ratio each time I go into "display" and "apply" and although it appears to accept the input I only see the wall paper screen on the TV. Does it make a difference if the HDMI settings as shown in my enquiry* were to show as "connected"? And if so how do I get there?

It seems unusual for a laptop to have 8 (potentially) video connections!
Are all these connections available as physical sockets?

Could it simply be that Mint is configuring the display as an additional workspace? Can you drag windows from display to display? Does your laptop have a Fn key or other button, that toggles between display modes?

To respond to the above - Jeremy - all the video connections show in response to the randr command. There is one HDMI socket and one VGA socket.
