HD Installation
 

Ok ... i will go ahead w/ my question ... i am attempting to install RH 8.0 .... i am currently running windows xp ... i want to go to linux ... now i used partitionmagic to create a 2 gig partition ... using FAT .... then downloaded linux .... then copied the .iso files to it(the fat partition) ... obviously i am installing from a HD ... so then i created the floppy disk using rawrite .... rebooted my system ... got all the way to the point to telling linux which partition to use ... and I dont know how to reference the FAT partition containing the .ISO files .... please can someone help a newbie? So Basically it's all i need to know is how do i reference the FAT partition containing the .iso files ?

Well, you can't install directly from an ISO image (to my knowledge). ISO files are images of a CD. You need to burn them onto CDs using Nero, EZ CD creator, or something similar. Then you use the CDs to install Linux.

If you don't have a CD drive or can't install from CDs for whatever reason, then you'll have to search for some way to convert the ISOs into a format usable for the install. Unfortunately, I've never done a hard drive install, and can't give any pointers on where to start looking.

Actually, check out this site: http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/l...nstall-hd.html .... I have actually done this before, however when I did, It reconized the partition automatically. This was about 2 years ago, so dont remember what it was. Like I said, it's all I am really looking for is in linux, how would i reference a FAT partition?

Linux can mount ISO images, and I have heard of install from ISO being possible. This would need to be supported by the supplied kernel so you want to check the install docs for the specific distribution.
If I understand your post correctly you have ONLY created the partition for the ISO image. Linux will need it's own partition (and usually a swap partition also).
