HCF modem woes

Please be patient . . . I am a really green Linux wanna be.

This afternoon, I tried (unsuccessfully) to set up a dialup connection on an old Compaq Presario hand-me-down that has Red Hat 9 dual booted with Win 98.

I've been doing a little research on this forum and I think my problem may be the Rockwell HCF 56k modem. On one of the resources I discovered in these threads, it said that 'unfortunately at the present time there is no HCF modem driver for Linux.' Is this true? Or is it outdated and now there is a solution? Has my Linux adventure hit a brick wall?

If that is true, how would I go about getting a compatible modem into this system? All recommendations are welcome.

TIA

That's the same resource to which I am referring. Here's the HCF page: http://www.linux.com/howtos/Conexant...OWTO/hcf.shtml Any other ideas?

Well, on a friends suggestion, I finally found a driver for my modem and kernal version at http://www.linuxant.com/drivers/hcf/full/downloads.php

Now I need to install it. My first install so wish me luck.

Victory!

Well, it took a while but I finally got up and running. I did have to upgrade the kernel though to find a driver that would do the trick. I'm happy to report that the free version seems to be working quite well on my dialup connection.
