having trouble installing Knoppix

Hi,
I am a complete :newbie: to linux. I downloaded Knoppix 3 different times and burnt it with easy cd creator. On the first 2 cds i burnt it sayd Kernal Not Found. On the last burn attempt, it didn't even boot into the menu screen. Can anyone help? Am I using the wrong burning prog?

Thanks

did you check the filesize and md5sum?

Where are you getting your iso's?

hi,
i dont know how to do that. the file size is 716,702kb. I downloaded it from linuxiso.org. Would you like me to download it from somewere else????

According to the ftp site that should be correct. Is Roxio not writing the disc completely? Sounds like an overburn issue. Make sure your disks are writing properly.

It says it finished completely, and I dont know about overburning with Roxio. I recently bought a new burner for one of my computers, and it came with a Nero software cd. Should I install nero on my computer and try burning it under nero.

You will want to use the software that came with burner you are using. I assume you are using the Knoppix disk on a non-partial system with a cdrom that isn't being used for much other than a doorstop. Make sure that the cdrom is reading the disk correctly or is new enough to read cdr's. Also Knoppix is meant to be run off of a cdrom only. Just in case you weren't aware. I hope I am helping :(.

Accually, my burner came with software that only works with windows 98. I just bought easy cd creator so that my burner would work in winxp. What do you mean by a non-partial system? My cd-rom was fine running a mandrake burn. Yes I know that it runs off the cd-rom. Right now I dont care about testing it and I would be fine installing it from the get-go. Is there anyway that I could install it from my harddrive or somewhere else? Thanks

here are some instructions for burning with Nero - don't know if they apply with other m$ programs... :

here for checking md5sum:

did you try another version of Knoppix (ie, 3.1 vs. 3.2, etc.) or from another mirror in the linuxiso.org listing?
