yeah i just booted my usb and it asked me to chose default or text mode etc....as i select backtrack text mode it turns black after a sec....

Behavior like that can occur when the video driver is loaded, but can't correctly determine a valid resolution or refresh rate for your monitor. Try to add the parameter
Code:
video=1024x768@60
to the kernel commandline in the bootloader. This will set the resolution to 1024x768 with a refresh rate of 60Hz, virtually any modern monitor can display that. Of course you can exchange that with values that fit your needs.

you are aware that BT5 r3 is really not supported any longer
it is based on Ubuntu 10.04
and there have been warnings on the old bt forum that if you run the dist upgrade, as apper wants you to do , you will kill all the tools that are in BT. And you will need to rebuild all the tools from source .
