Having trouble getting a higher screen resolution

ok, I currently have 2 screens, one is a 19"widescreen that is capable of 1440x900 resolution, which is what I would like it at...the other is a 17" crt, which is fine as is.

The problem I am having is that I cant get the widescreen monitor to go to the proper resolution. I dont have the option in the GUI resolution adjuster and when I manually add it to the xorg.conf file beryl/xgl crash (but gnome works fine)

Ubuntu Edgy Eft is my Distro, the vid card is a ATI 9600xt using the fglx drivers.

here is my xorg.conf

You lack HorizSync and VertRefresh in the Monitor section.
Try adding it.

WickedAwsome 03-07-2007 10:05 AM

What should I put it as? I can only find the specs that say the monitor is 75 hz, but I don't know if thats vertical or horizontal or what... its a HANNS-G HW191D

jimmy512 03-07-2007 10:34 AM

Correct me if I am wrong, but assuming your 19" monitor is screen0, could you not just add:
Code:

        SubSection "Display"
                Depth    24
                Modes    "1440x900" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
        EndSubSection

In the config file. The same could be done with screen1 if that is what you want.

WickedAwsome 03-07-2007 10:54 AM

well, that works ok in gnome, but beryl doesnt work when I add that...and my 2nd monitor switches to a clone and is too big for the monitor, so I guess its changing the resolution for it too...

WickedAwsome 03-07-2007 11:09 AM

got this problem solved I think...just have a new problem now

pyre 03-12-2007 11:47 PM

oooook...so whats the solution?

WickedAwsome 03-14-2007 01:06 AM

not entirely sure, kept tweaking the xorg.conf file til it eventually worked. The problem now tho, is that only the primary monitor is useable, the other screen is just black, the mouse works on it, but no desktop or dual screen beryl anymore. No biggie tho, atleast its at a useable resolution.
