Having problems changing my window manager and a Gentoo question
 

I feel kind of embarrassed asking this because it's pretty newbie but it's starting to bug me now.


I just started to expiriment with Overclockix because I've heard it's the best eye candy distro. Some family are coming in for spring break and I want to really impress. Earlier today I was checking it out and liked the look of it so much I decided to install it. It automatically runs KDE (which is perfect for eye candy) but they aren't coming out until a few days so I wanted to expiriment with some other wm's. Overclockix says it has IceWM, KDE, Gnome, and another one I think yet I am not able to freely choose this at the login, nor does the code "xwmconfig" work. Could someone lead me towards the right way here? I'd like to keep using this but if I'm going to be stuck with KDE forever I'll take my business elsewhere.


One other thing - This may seem a bit off topic but since I'm here:

Does anyone know if the new Gentoo (2005.0) is going to be a graphical installer? I heard a rumor and was curious, and when is Gentoo '05 going to be released anyway? Hopefully soon..

I have the gentoo 2005.0 for amd 64.
I bought it from their store. I believe they just updated all the install docs, so I am guessing 2005.0 is out on the mirrors or will be very soon. (too lazy to look.) its at gentoo.org.
I haven't installed yet, but the install pdf did not elude to any.
I want to install Sunday night if I have the time.

As for the other question. I mostly use slack and to change wm's I use xwmconfig.(u mentioned you tried that already though.) If overclockix has a gui login you might be able to change wm's via "session"????? Thats how I change in Fedora core 3.
I know there is a guru here that can answer this ? for you.

Those are pretty basic actually, mine is what I like to call "super pimp", I took full advantage of Superkaramba. Thanks for the Gentoo info and such.

ok thanks on the Gentoo stuff. I've heard Yoper is quite close to Overclockix so I'll put it on today. KDE is cool but unless I'm impressing I don't like to use it - too big and bloated I want something very simple like Flux or IceWM.

I agree 100%. KDE is nice if you are goofing around. If I want to do work I use Flux.
You can make Flux look pretty nice also, but I like it pretty stark.

My buddy is running openbox which is also nice.
