Having problems
Hey everyone,
So I installed Red Hat 8 and everything was going well for the first few days. But then all of a sudden, I got this "....resulted in short read" file system error on start-up. So, I searched very places and was told to use the "e2fsck -y /dev/hda6" command. So, I did. It worked. I was back in. But now, that comes up very randomly. I also having problems with things just locking up for no reason and having to restart to the file system error message. It is really starting to bother me. But I haven't quit yet. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have Gateway laptop. 1.6ghz, 256mb ram, 30gb hard drive, with Windows XP Pro and RH 8.0. |
Do you know what kind of filesystem you partitioned with (ext2, ext3, reiserfs)? And have you been shutting down the computer properly?

If you've not been shutting down linux in the proper fashion that could cause disk corruption. Another possibility is that the hard disk is about to fail.
