Question having mail server without registering an mx record

Greetings:

FC6

I trying to configure a mail server (sendmail) for home use. My question is:
1. Can I create an email server using only public ip, I mean without having a DNS mx record. I dont have any domain name. What I want is to have an email account for home use only but accessible to the internet. For example,I have an account of a user@124.124.124.124.

If you want to send out to the real world, you'll need a valid domain name. If you're wanting this to all be internal, make a domain up and setup a DNS server that your internal computers can use to send mail, etc.

no-ip.com and dyndns.org offer keeping your MX and A records for free. You'll get a box name inside their domains, and it will be recorded as it's own mail server.
