Having issues downloading updates
 

Thank You for taking the time for a newbie!
I was talked into Linux after having Windows for years. I love the fact that it works so much better! But, when I am prompted to download updates, it takes forever and never finishes. The last time I tried to update. I went out of town for four days and when I came back...it still wasn't finished. I let it go to see how much longer it would take...4 days later and it still wasn't finished...so I just canceled the download. Meanwhile, updates keep piling up and as of today I have 238. Am I doing something wrong or might it just be the computer hardware? I am having other issues as well but, this is the biggest. Thank You so much, in advance, for anything you can do to help!

What version of linux are you using? Ubuntu, Mint, etc?

what 'other issues' are you having? You could try clearing the update cache via the terminal and start updating again but until you say which flavour of linux you are using...

Hello. More infomation about your system will be necessary. Which Distro and version are you using ?(to start with)

Also type in the following and post the result

I know this is really stupid but, after a friend of mine downloaded it for me, he didn't have time to tell me much of anything about the system, and I moved to Ohio 2 days later. I don't know how to use anything on the system. I think it is Mint, but im not sure. He showed me how to get on the internet to get to the sites I wanted and that was about it. I don't know what a Distro is and I don't know how to clean anything. The other issue I have is when I try to download pictures off of my camera's memory card...it works fine when I have just pictures...it freezes if I have video.

The only thing I could find about the system is openSUSE 13.1
