Have multple win7 pc, and one ubuntu 12.10 pc, they cannot see each other on the net
 

Am an old windows guy, I am trying to make the transition to Linux thru Ubuntu, however I am having trouble getting them to see one another on my network. I have 6 win7 pc and 1 ubuntu pc, all of the wins see each other on the network but not the ubuntu, and visa versa. Any help given would be appreciated. Am running Ubuntu 12.10 and my other pcs are win 7 pro and ultimate.

The most popular option for sharing files between Linux and Windows computers is Samba. Have a look at this tutorial:

Alternatively, google search for setting up samba and you'll find lots of information about it.

In Ubuntu, Right click on the folder you want to share, select share this folder option and set the permissions you want. Then accept the changes and you should be done.

To see the other computers from ubuntu click on the network option on your file browser and that should display the other computers connected in the same network.

Thank you for your assistance, I am truly a newby when it comes to linux and its commands. Is there and easy way to allow my Ubuntu 12.10 to see my workgroup of windows. For now I would be content if I could just network my win7 printer to my ubuntu pc. Then work my way up the ladder with file sharing.

Where would I go in Ubuntu 12.10 to look at my network places? So far I have been using the add printer and samba printer and all it ever shows is workgroup and will not drill any further down.

To see all the devices connected to your network you click on the network icon on your file browser (Open up a folder and look at the pane on the left side and click on the network icon there) click on the workgroup and if you havent changed the domain name then it should show you the other computers. I think windows changes the domain name as homegroup or something like that.

To install the drivers for your wireless printer we would need to know the brand and model to search for a linux driver online.

More history, I have loaded multiple linux OS and played with them, and I do not remember having this difficulity with networking, however to answer your question I have multiple printers and the one I am trying to network (and have before with other linux) is a HP deskjet 2210.
I also went to home folder and tried clicking on the network and it gives the following error (Could not display "network:///" Error: Timeout reached Select another viewer and try again). On another note I have never used any other format other than DHCP when networking, I am a little long in tooth and am trying to teach myself linux and other forms of networking, my other problem is CRS but that comes with age I think. I also went into samba conf on the terninal and I am going to have study a bit before I change anything there.

For networking make sure you have enable networking option on your network manager.
