Hauppauge WinTV-HVR 2250 and Debian

with plenty more where this comes from, lol.

I've managed to put the latest Knoppix distro onto a persistent USB drive and have played around with it for the last week.

Am planning on ditching Win$ forever after considering installling 7 on a new planned build.
I'm learning little by little and have started some tutes and e-book reading to get up to speed. Boy, big curve...

Anyway, here's my dilema. College bowls start Sat. My XP os has taken a dump. I can mount all drives thru both Ubuntu cd and Knoppix usb. I have a Hauppauge WinTV-HVR 2250 card that I would like to get working under debian, but really ain't got a clue how to install drivers or firmware to make it so.

I've tried searching here and elsewhere (like: http://linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Ha...WinTV-HVR-2200 and find that I can understand Greek better than Linux. For now.

Where do I begin?
See?

Well, 'installing' the firmware is just a matter of downloading a file and copying it to a directory. The instructions on that page under the "Making it Work" heading have the command:
Code:

cp *fw /lib/firmware
...which is the cp (copy) the firmware files (everything that ends in "fw") to the /lib/firmware directory. That's it. Further down that page is a program called TVCONFIG:
https://github.com/map7/tvconfig

...which is a GUI based installer/configuration utility. However, I would *STRONGLY* suggest you use either Mint or Ubuntu if you're new to Linux....chances are the kernel module (the 'driver' in Windows terms) for your card are already present in those distros, which will only leave you a simple file copy to get things working.

Thanks TB. I had to resize the data.img directory today on my thumb drive and that took most of my free time plus studying a tutorial.
I did manage to dl the three files from Steve Toth's server and will finish in the a.m.
(I pulled my tuner and graphics cards when I started getting probs in XP)

Hopefully I'll have it up by game time and figure out where to go from there.

I would like to get this working in a similar fashion as I had it running under win 7 Media Center. Namely that it ran in the background, recorded show I wanted to see and then could play them back from a saved library.

I as well am new to Linux, although Debian has indeed grown upon me. I would prefer to go through actually setting it up since the knowledge gained will just be useful if needed again. I don't see the act of changing to 'fit the trend' as being terribly helpful to understanding what & why I need to take certain action.

I do noy know what files I still have, but I know that some of the files I commented so I could backtrack do seem to be gone :(. Either way, here are the links I have:
