Question Has anybody tried linux on Fuego 218 laptop?

I installed RedHat7.1 on Fuego 218, it is not a known brand for laptop, but using sis630ST video card and ordinary 14.1" XGA, TFT. During the installation, there was indeed a choice for sis630 and so this video is supported by rh7.1. But whatever changes I made using Xconfigurator, it could only display 640x480, otherwise the screen truns to black. I have windows2000 and could display 1024x768.

Could anybody tell me if I need a newer version of redhat (for example 9.0), or if there are some other things I should understand?

I have redhat 9 running on my Fuego 218... There is a little issue with the graphics during install, but as soon as you get a desktop, just change the screen type to a better generic driver and all is well!!

The only thing I am having trouble with is the modem - its the sis630 chipset, I have tried 3 different drivers, they all compile and install ok (i think) but when I use kppp or any form of dialer, i get the "error 7"

Amy thoughts on that??

Hi ACESiX. I have successfully installed RH9 on Fuego 218. (Grafic). I also got problems on the modem, which is not directly supported by Kernel2.4.2

I am searching these days to see whether I could find something.
