hard drive write causes reboot
 

I'm using suse 9.0. I have a removable hard drive that i use to hold my .ogg files. I've mounted it in fstab:

/dev/hdb1 /wh reiserfs defaults 1 2

I had a system crash a couple days ago caused by xine. now, when I try to write to hdb1, the screen goes black and then the system starts to boot again. Its really odd.

I tried running fsck by typing:

fsck -t reiserfs /dev/hdb1

however, it doesn't return anything.

Any ideas on how to fix this? I don't I have an issue reading files off hdb1.

Not really sure what to tell you........BUT, I lost 2 gigs of .ogg files because of ext3 and reiserfs journaling crap..........so I just reformatted the drive in my jukebox to ext2 and have had NO problems in well over a year now..........I don't use Journaling at all in any of my boxes ........it is un-tested and un-proven IMHO..........

your right, I've had nothing but problems. Luckily i can copy over my files to another filesystem. How would i reformat the old drive? Do I use fdisk?
