Hard drive image question

Hi. I am going to be upgrading my laptop hard drive,so I am planning to make an image with partimage. I was wondering if the partitions will stay the same,or if I can just put the data from the old hard drive onto a bigger partition. Ideally, I'd like to just restore the image on the new hard drive with being able to use a bigger partition. Thanks for your help.

Read other member's thread

In you case you can connect the backup disk as a USB device and clone it by any Live CD.

Check into Ghost for Linux.
If you need to increase the size of the partitions you will need to copy the 1st partition over and if resize is needed on it then increase the size first. Then copy over the next one and increase if need and so on. Reason is some filesystem types using gparted do not supoort the moving of the beginning first block of a partition. Reiserfs is one of these the last time I read the docs for parted.

Thanks for the replies. Sorry about not reading the other posts,I was just sort of overwhelmed with all of the programs and options. I now have a good idea of what I will do. Once again, sorry about not reading the other post,I'll try not to do it again.
