Hard Drive checker

I suspect that I may have a bad sector on my drive... what programs/commands are available (I'm running FC3) to do a scan of the drive?

While on this topic, is there any way to run a defrag?

The "badblocks" command can help, as wel as "e2fsck". You should have both already. Read the manpages.
