Hard drive access optimisation

Ok, Slackware 9.0, on a Seagate Cuda 80 GB drive (with 8MB Cache). And an older Samsung, lets ignore the Samsung drive though.

I have established that i can boost hard drive access speed using hdparm: (as root)

bash-2.05b# hdparm -X66 -d1 -u1 -c3 -m16 /dev/hda

however these settings don't stay, nor can i find anything in the man page to relate to this.

So the question is, how do i make this permanent?

Fingers crossed this resolves my system freezing while it waits for the HDD when transfering large files from CD to HDD. (If it doesn't that will be my next questions).

Any relevant webpages / advice would be greatly appreachatied. Thanks

Actually it is in the manpage:
-k and -K
This stores the settings for after reboot. Should you choose other options, you could place the syntax in your rc.local script.

Cool

Thanks mate. I was looking for a conf file of some description. I had considered the rc files, but i wasn't game of heading there if i could avoid it. Thanks for pointing that out for me.

Unfortunately, this does not resolves my transfer freeze issues . I think i'll check my kernel compilation, in the past i've found that staock kernels had this issue, and going through and recompiling it took care of it. (now all i need is time to look through it, and remember what i normally change LOL)
