hard disk/install

I have no DOS or Windows on my machine. I only use linux, one distro, SuSE 8.1.

The first time I installed linux, certain icons in KDE default were in the taskbar. I removed them eventually and added some of my own. Later, I reinstalled (not restore) linux and noticed KDE wasn't back at default config because my icons that I had added from the old installation were still there and the default ones I had removed before, were gone as well. How would I go about completely erasing everything on my hard disk and then trying a clean install of linux again?

Well if it's just your personal config you want to get rid of log in as root and delete your user account and then your home directory then make yourself a user account again.
