i am not using kde or gnome. i would like to know how to halt the system right from the login screen. is there a script i need to put in or do i need to hit a sequence of keys. i could do it in redhat 7.1, but i cant in 7.3. help!!

you need to make certain changes in /etc/inittab....
there must be a line with ctrlaltdel in it.....change the command
after it to "/sbin/shutdown -h now"

(i am assuming that /sbin/shutdown is path for shutdown)
now pressing ctrl + alt + del will halt.....
