Hald not running

Hi, I m running Mandriva 2008, and when trying to install a blue Speedtouch modem, I m unable to start haldaemon anymore, and modem never
setup. Need hotplug, and ppp, as messages say. That was ok w/ Sagem800.
Please advise.

Could you give us the output of exactly what you're doing, and could you also attach your /var/log/messages? Your kernel version would also be greatly appreciated

Have you tried upgrading Mandriva to a supported/ up to date version also? See if the problem is fixed?
