HAL daemon fails to start


now when I reboot my laptop compaq nc4400, HAL daemon fails to start.

what should I do?

Is this the reason why there's No Network devices available on my top right hand corner of my machine?

You need to give a lot more information. Like, just for starters, what distribution are you using?
