gummiboot?
 

Hello everyone. Can someone give me a little additional info on gummiboot. I just installed arch and was surprised at the end the recommended of using gummiboot for the loader rather than GRUB. Is gummiboot the boot loader of choice going forward on UEFI (or maybe SystemD & UEFI) systems? My main concern of course was most of the information you found out there when you need to change the boot procedure is for GRUB. If your using gummiboot you are probably on your own unless you really understand gummiboot really well.

Gummiboot is quite simple to set up and configure (as simple as Lilo or Grub Legacy) and from my experience reliable. I use it on my laptop (which has Arch installed) and it works just fine. Regarding the future, Gummiboot (or better: its code) will get incorporated into systemd at some not so far point in the future, this has already been announced. Of course you can use any other bootloader with UEFI support instead, like Syslinux, Grub, rEFIt, ... .

Gummiboot is awesome!

I even boot my Debian & Slackware systems with it :D

EDIT: The only limitation is that it can only boot kernel images & initial ramdisks that are located on the EFI system partition -- this is why the Arch installation guide recommends mounting /boot to the ESP (all other distributions mount /boot/efi to the ESP).
