Gui wont start cant read logs what to do

I had a crash and I think it wont startup now cause of the video getting screwed basically i have a geforece 2 card with tv out and it was in TV out mode when i changed screen res and it locked scince then i cannot boot.
I was hoping there is a way to set the mode to standard vga or something to get past this.

I can get into diagnosis mode and when i try "tartx" it errors out and says to read the logs.. I can navigate to the log file but cant figure what is the command to open or read it let alone edit it !! yicks something so simple.
but being a newbie so hard to figure out.

when i try to startx the screen basically says ..

logfile: "/var/log/XFree86.0.log

using config file: "/etc/X11/XF86Config-4"

(EE) means errors

(EE) VESA (0): vm86 () syscall generated signal 11

(EE) Screens found , but none have a usable configuration

Fatal Server error: no screens found

report full log to debian-x@lists.debian.org

Try doing as root:

xf86config

That should give you a text-based wizard that will walk you through the regeneration of you XF86Config file.
