Question GUI Missing

Just installed RH8 onto a laptop. Ran through the install selecting typical personal workstation and when complete, it presents me with a text-based login. I type user ROOT then password and get logged in, but no GUI interface. Typing STARTX gives me a message:

(EE) Unable to locate/open config file
(EE) Error from xf86HandleConfigFile()

Fatal server error:
no screens found

What's missing? How do I get the KDE running?

Thanks!
Neb
