Guest Mode on VirtualBox on iMac

I have installed Linux Mint in VirtualBox on an iMac. Mint boots fine but it only allows me to log in as "guest" with the caveat that nothing done in this session can be saved. I noticed on install that it offered an opportunity to assign a user and password which I did but I can't seem to log in as such.

I installed the Guest Additions and the Extension Pack as well.

Mouse and Keyboard are captured and the network is enabled. I am typing this from Firefox in Mint.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Did you actually install Linux Mint into your Virtual Machine?

If your just loading the ISO image for Linux Mint into the VM, you have not installed it yet. You need to actually click the Install option and answer the questions that, the installer program for Linux Mint, asks you. Once you have done that and the installer HAS finished installing it to your VM's Virtual Hard Drive, THEN you should be able to set your own user account up.

Hope this helps.

What happens when you try to log in with the username and password you provided? And, did you try with and without caps lock on the password and assuming other keyboard layouts may have been in place when you carried out the install?

Edit: How did you install the Guest Additions if you could not log in?

Thanks to both of you for your quick response.

Problem seems to be solved and I'll mark the thread as such. For some reason when I rebooted, my username was available and I was able to log in.
