Question GStreamer Failed

I am using Ubuntu 8.04.
Right now I meet a problem about the GStreamer.
The Totem, the Rhythmbox and even the Volume Control doesn't work.
When I open Totem, "Failed to create a GStreamer play object. Please check your GStreamer installation." is shown as an error.
When I click the Volume Control, it says: "No volume control GStreamer plugins and/or devices found."
I try to use the ways given in this forum, But none of the methods works.
The soundcards works fine, and when i run alsamixer, i can adjust the volume there.
Please give me some help

Ok, I fixed by myself in a stupid way.
Downloading all source files form http://gstreamer.freedesktop.org/src/ , compile and install.
restart computer. then everything comes back.
