grup-loader for redhat8.0
I have installed redhat 8.0 without any mistake but
later I had to reinstall win98 and then I lost my grup loader. Now i am not able to reach redhat 'cause I dont have any boot disk.Is there a way to bring Grup loader back? |
re-run the redhat install but choose "upgrade existing installation"
add a couple of packages and it will re-install the bootloader this is one way of getting redhat back there are others but i do not know how to do them |
Can you tell me what did you mean with a
couple of packages? |
when you install redhat you get a screen with various options like Gamestation, or Workstation etc
one of the options is Choose Individual Packages. Choose this option and add "a couple of packages" such as Kernel Source or Development or another Office suite. If you add packages then the bootloader will be changed as well thus allowing you to install Grub or Lilo. |
also if you rerun the installer and do the upgrade option and deselect all packages you can still get to the portion of the installer where you can make a boot disk. This will get you back in to RH where you can reinstall grub.

I've totally tried to reinstall grub this way, but I keep getting the message:
No kernel packages will be installed, so a bootloader will not be installed. Well, it's really similar to that anyways... |
so
like i said install the kernel source packages or the development packages or any of the server packages these will effect the kernel which will in turn make the bootloader need an update which will allow you to re-install it |
Yeah, that's what you'd think, but even after installing some kernel package stuff, it gives the same message. I had to reinstall Red Hat anyways, so I got my grub goin ... still curious about that message though.
