grub update question

i've been running karmic on one drive with windows on a different drive - i change the boot drive in bios when i need to use windows for some reason - i accepted a bunch of upgrades, including one for grub, and now i can't boot windows anymore on the other drive - if it's grub, is there any way to avoid this?

Did Ubuntu not come somewhere in the upgrade process which GRUB it should use ?
And what was you're answer assuming that it did asked that question ?

thank you for the response ...

i don't remember exactly what happened - the updater suggested a grub update (among many others)and i accepted it - now when the machine boots up it shows me all drives, including the windows drive, but if i select windows it will not boot - if i change the bios startup drive to the windows drive, that doesn't work either.

my assumption was that by keeping windows on a separate drive (as opposed to doing a dual boot on one drive), linux wouldn't mess with it in any way - i guess that's not the case

sorry about the sketchy details :0(

Go to sf.net and download the bootinfoscript - run it and post the RESULTS.txt
That way we can see what is in each MBR, and what it's looking for.

What (exactly) happens ?. Does XP start to boot; do you get a message, does it just loop ... ?
That listing looks like everything should be o.k.
