GRUB question

I have installed RH 9 onto my XP Pro notebook. All went well except until when I started getting the xmnt2000 errors. I read on here how to resolve the issue and followed the last of a thread which stated that I should type the following at the GRUB command prompt...

unhide (hd0,0)
hide (hd0, 1)
rootnoverify (hd0,0)
chainloader +1

this booted my XP fine. However, when I try to reboot, I get dropped straight into the GRUB command line screen.

How can I get the PC to return me to the grapical GRUB interface?

Also, I understand that I need to unhide my NTFS partition once booted into RH 9? I looked at it under XP and it is not hidden there.

I need to resolve the GRUB issue and unhide my NTFS.

Thanks for the help.

I may not be an expert but it may be helpful to post your partition table. I am guessing you have XP on first partiion and RH on your second?

If I am wrong, eh me?, then you need to use the GRUB map command to trick the boot up into thinking its loading XP as the first partition.

(2) I don't use RH but it must have a file something like Mandrakes called /boot./grub/menu.1st, I think rh is called menu.conf anyhow, this can be editted to put the correct text in there ONCE we all solve your boot up issues.

If you get a chance please post what /boot/grub/menu file says please.

3) as you had success in booting into XP what do you mean by reboot, were you able to see in messages on the screen when trying to load RH.?

4) Is grub the preferred boot manager for RH or did you first get told to install LILO? you may have some broken grub files or be lacking grub files?
