Grub loading... not working corectly
when i turn on my computer i get a message saying grub loading...
I wait around 20 minutes and still it gives me the same message. There is no error message. i am using a live cd right now. please respond. |
Unfortantly, while I am sure it's not outputting anything more then that, it's not really enough to go on.
If I had to take a guess it's probably not able to find something and just wasting time trying to find it... like stage 2 or something. What distribution is it? It might be fastest and easiest to just reinstall grub from a ubuntu or knoppix disc or the such rather then try and troubleshoot. |
thanks for the quick response it is 9.10 ubuntu and has a partition with Microsoft windows xp.(it's also my mom's cpu) if i were to reinstall grub, would i also have to reinstall ubuntu or just grub. please supply any links necessary and instructions for just downloading grub from the disk(or deleting the old ubuntu partition and installing a new one.)

Just grub,
You should be able to use the grub-install tool while in the live distribution from a terminal, might need some additional information passed to it like where /boot is and the hard drive, I am afraid I am no expert when it comes to reinstalling grub. Might be worth doing a man grub-install and reading up what it needs yourself. Generally Windows is fairly easy to configure in Grub if not detected but let's cross that bridge when/if we come to it. |
