grub - linking /boot to /

Okay, I just created a new partition BEFORE my / partition (fedora core 2) for another operating system, causing if to chane from /dev/hdd5 to /dev/hdd6. I new this would mess up grub and it did. Fine. I did a rescue boot from CD and got grub up and running again. The problem I have is grub will find the /boot partition which is still /dev/hdd1 but this wont boot cause it can't find the / partition. it's not set in grub.conf and I've looked through alot of other files to no avail.

Where can I change this from /dev/hdd5 to /dev/hdd6???

not too familiar with grub, but this is how the setup is in lilo.conf and i'd think grub would be similar. in the first section:

boot = /dev/hda
install = /boot/boot.b
map = /boot/map

note: i'm at work on a windows machine, but i'm pretty sure these are basically how the lines are set up.

the first line tells lilo to install itself in the boot record, in this case the mbr.

there should be a later stanza that is similar to this:

#linux with root partition on /dev/hda5
image = /boot/vmlinuz #kernel
label = linux #this shows on lilo boot menu
root = /dev/hda5 #location of root partition

the line we are interested in is root=

setting this to the correct root partition should point lilo/grub in the right direction.

hope this helps.
