GRUB help

Hi All,

Am new to this site & new to Linux.

Have always used MS, my son is a programmer for IT company and swears by Linux.

Currently my son is on a 12 month leave, backpacking around the world, he has left me with his server that has is webb site and therefore email access & I have been quickly trying to learn the Linux system with Fedora 9.

We are experiencing some problems with the HDD so have done a ghosting onto a new HDD, this all went well but when we installed the new HDD we got GRUB appear on screen so it looks like we have lost the MBR.

Can anyone advise how to recover in this situation.

Regards

you will need to reinstall grub. It looks like you did not copy that 100 meg partition when you cloned the drive

you will need the fedora 9 install dvd .run it using the "rescue mode " - fallow the on screen directions
after you are told( and do) chroot /mnt/sysimage
run fdisk -l
there should be a small partition with a " * " next to it ( assuming ONLY fedora is installed , not fedora and windows)
should be sda1
type in
grub-install /dev/sda

and SEE:

Hi Guys'

Thanks for you help, downloaded Super GRUB, and ran it , it looks as though I have had some success, it now boots up , still a few little issues to work through.

Once again thanks.
