grub help

recently i have installed knoppix 3.3 and after restarting what appears on the screen is
I am unable to boot the operating system. i have a windows partition as well
earlier i used to have a linux partition and both partitions appeared on the screen while starting. but now the grub prompt appears and i am unable to do anything further
any body plz help soon so that i can use both linux and windows partition

You need to fix grub; boot from your knoppix

Mount linux disk:
mount -o rw /dev/hdXY /mnt/mydisk

Run grub-install to restore grub:
grub-install --root-directory=/mnt/mydisk /dev/hdX

Replace X and Y with your disk and partition
