grub goes to prompt only 1st boot LAMP
 

I just installed a lamp sys and when it completed and rebooted, all I get is a grub prompt.
fedora 6 on duel HD with XP on first HD. Told grub in setup to load on 1st HD in mbr. any suggestions what I need to do at prompt? Tried to reinstall grub, says no dir found.

could you post your /boot/grub/grub.conf here?

cannot even get into/boot/grub/grub.conf file. even a search wont find it.
/dev/hdb
/devhdb1 /boot ext3 102mb
fedora core /dev/volgroup00/logvol00
this is how it setup and cannot even find fedora.

get a livecd, (gentoo-minimal install for example) and boot using this cd. this would allow you to mount your /boot (or if it is on the root partition, /), then you can edit/vieuw all your files. since /boot/grub/grub.conf is still a text file, you can open this with your favorite text editor (nano, vi, vim, emacs, ...)

best use a small livecd like gentoo since it takes less time to download/burn.

don't dispair, all the above steps are really easy.
