Grub errors when removing extra HD

I installed and ran Linux dual boot for a week. Great stuff. When removing an extra hard drive, I variously get Grub error 21 and 17. It was the second (IDE 0 slave) that I removed. Windo$ is on IDE o master and Ubuntu is on IDE 1, slave. How do I remove a drive and tell Ubuntu Linux to ignore or reconfigure for that missing hardware?

The boot sector of GRUB is install on the primary master HD MBR, the rest is installed on the other HD you removed. Restore the MBR by using the Windows installation media Recovery Console and use fixmbr and maybe fixboot;
