Grub error 24 in kubuntu

Hi,

I tried to re-partion my harddisk but I guess it went wrong. Now when I boot my computer I get error message 24 in grub 1.5.
Does anyone know what to do

I use kubuntu 6.06 and tried to partion my harddisk with cfdisk

You have access to the internet so Google "Grub Manual" as it will tell you Error 24 is "Attempt to access block ouside partition". Basically Grub complains that the address it was given to load the system files is wrong!

When a user install a Linux the installer will burn the partition address or number into the installed system. If you alter the partitions then the Linux will go to the wrong address or partition. Adding extra partitions will not cause a problem, only altering partitions with installed information is unacceptable.

Your best way out is to boot to a Live CD and use it to re-partition the disk back to the original form, if you can still remember the partition table.

The information in the partition table works like a set of door bells in a multi-storey building. You can mess up the door bells but the residents are not undisturbed. In your case just re-wire the door bells will get back where you were.

Good luck!
