I had Grub working just fine with Ubuntu and XP, then I tried to load Kubuntu on the same system and lost Grub. When I boot up, I get the Menu which seems to include Kubuntu (which won't load, by the way)at the top. I have to manually select the OS I want and hit Enter to get anything to load.
When I go into /boot/grub/menu.lst, I do not see the entries for Kubuntu. When I change the Default in menu.lst to either what it says is the entry for XP or what the boot menu says is the entry for XP, it still doesn't work. Am I forgetting that the first entry is 0? Did Kubuntu create another menu.lst and or another Grub? IF so, how do I find it/them?

I guess the current, broken grub is located in the other distro's partition. Can you have a look in there?

When you installed Kubuntu, where did you install Grub? master boot record? root partition? Are you now able to boot Ubuntu and xp but not Kubuntu? If so, boot Ubuntu and run the command: sudo fdisk -l (lower case letter L) to get your partition information to post here.

And rflemin, if the partition is already mounted, you might want to find out where:

$ df -k

Thanks, folks. I sort of thought there was a crippled Kubuntu Grub somewhere, but I hadn't thought of it as being in a different partition, nor did I know how to look for it beyond running a Search File System from the good Ubuntu. I'll try the fdisk -l technique.
