GRUB does not boot windows

My GRUB has been messed up somehow...
Turned out hd0 and hd1 had randomly switched places!
I reinstalled GRUB onto the harddrive, and now it boots perfectly - into all operating systems apart from Windows!

When I boot into Windows, it says Starting Up... then a cursor blinking
I've tried changing the commands before booting and reinstalling GRUB, but it doesn't budge.

The strange thing is, Windows is bootable, because when I boot directly into it from the BIOS, it starts up.

Here is my /boot/grub/menu.lst file:

Code:

# menu.lst - See: grub(8), info grub, update-grub(8)
#            grub-install(8), grub-floppy(8),
#            grub-md5-crypt, /usr/share/doc/grub
#            and /usr/share/doc/grub-doc/.

# Set the default entry to the entry number NUM. Numbering starts from 0, and
# the entry number 0 is the default if the command is not used.

# You can specify 'saved' instead of a number. In this case, the default entry
# is the entry saved with the command 'savedefault'.
# WARNING: If you are using dmraid do not use 'savedefault' or your
# array will desync and will not let you boot your system.

sda1 is where Windows is
sda2 is another partition
sda3 is Gentoo (which isn't appearing on fdisk -l) and I will add this to grub later when windows works!
hdb1 is Ubuntu 8.04
hdb5 is swap

Your fdisk output shows xp on sda while your Grub sees it on (hd1). I would suggest you change your xp menu.lst entry to:

title Windows XP
rootnoverify (hd1,0)
map (hd0) (hd1)
map (hd1) (hd0)
chainloader +1

Thank you yancek. This solved the problem! :D
