Grub.conf in Linux Boot Process

Hi,

Cent OS 5.0 is having below Six steps of Linux boot process.

1) BIOS
2) MBR
3) GRUB
4) Kernel
5) Init
6) Run level

Grub.conf file execution is happening at 3'rd step. File location is /boot/grub/grub.conf file. But whole root file system mount happens at Kernel(4'th step). How does Grub.conf file execution happen without root file system? Because all files are in "/" folder.

Regards
Satheesh

2.5) grub stage 1.5
3.5) initrd

Thee are lots of simplifications in your analysis. For example grub.conf is read, not executed.
