grub.conf and menu.lst

what is the difference between grub.conf and menu.lst

corp769 01-28-2012 05:15 AM

Hello,

First of all, please use a better, descriptive subject next time. Nothing on these forums are "urgent."

Besides that, if you do a "ls -al" within your /boot/grub directory, you will see that menu.lst is a symbolic link to grub.conf.

Cheers,

Josh

Please use a descriptive title for your thread excluding words like 'urgent' or 'help'. Using a proper title makes it easier for members to help you. I've changed it for you, this time.

And welcome to LinuxQuestions!

Actually, grub always uses menu.lst, if you check in /boot/grub you should find that menu.lst is symlinked to grub.conf, and if you actually check the mbr of your hard drive you'll probably find a refernce to menu.lst, but not grub.conf.

If menu.lst is missing on your machine for some reason(s) you should probably create the symlink to grub.conf by yourself.
