When I type startx on the cli it just gives me a gray screen. No "X" cursor, desktop or login window. Just grey screen. The monitar and video card or configured correctly. Is there anything I need to do besides configure the monitar and video card settings?

Rep:
you could either have not have a window manager set up,
or the one you have set up has no background or
menu or anything.
if you are user pscooper then
you can probably
cat > /home/pscooper/.xinitrc
startkde
hit control-d
then startx
for a really painful experience,
substitute twm for startkde
I'm using Redhat 7.3. I'm not sure what wm i'm trying to run. I'v set up a .xinitrc file with "/usr/bin/startkde" in it, but i still get the grey screen.
